Two 1:43-Scale, Super-detailed, Hand-built Models of the McLaren Honda MP4/4, 1988

This is a new, two-model display is of the McLaren Honda MP4/4.  This is the second-time since I began building the 1:43-scale Model Factory Hiro kits that I have done a championship-winning McLaren MP4.

This display differs from the MP4/5B because it has both McLaren cars from the 1988 F1 team, one of Ayrton Senna's and one of Alain Prost's.  By the end of the season Senna had won his first F1 World Championship title with the MP4/4, just beating, by one race, his team-mate and 1987 champion, Alain Prost.

The closed model complete with bodywork is Prost's test car from the 1988 Monaco Grand Prix, which he went on to win.  This is next to the open version which is Senna's winning car from the 1988 Japanese Grand Prix.  By having a two-model display of one open and one closed model, it's possible to view the uninterrupted lines and shape of the car, whilst at the same time viewing what lies beneath the bodywork.

Both models were built from kits by Model Factory Hiro modified with the addition of some new, scratch-built parts in brass and aluminium.  The majority of these new parts were used in the version without the bodywork.

These models were finished in January 2020 and were on display at Retromobile 2020.
