Three 1:43-Scale, Super-detailed, Hand-built Models of the Lamborghini Miura P400, 1968

This is a three-model display of the 1968 Lamborghini Miura P400.  This is chassis no. 3303, which was first owned by Mohammad Reza Shah

Pahlavi, the Shah of Iran (Persia) from 1941 to 1979.  He took delivery of his new car at his winter home in St Moritz in 1968. The car has had a number of owners over the years, and recently underwent an extensive restoration prior to being sold to a new owner at Retromobile 2019.

This display has some similarities with the two-model display of the Cadillac Spider; one of the models is a scratch-built chassis model and one is a built-model.  The difference is the addition of a third, 'bodybuck' model.

The chassis model has been scratch-built from a mixture of materials including plasti-card, resin and brass.  A Le Phoenix kit of the Miura was used as a guide and provided a base from which to cast some resin parts. The seat and wheels also came from the kit. The engine has been entirely scratch-built using a number of materials.

Another Le Phoenix kit of the Miura was used as a base to make the built model.  It was necessary to make significant changes to the kit, in particular to the interior as it was not right for this version of the Miura.  A new one was made from plasti-card and resin, although the original seats from the kit were used after some improvements.  There are also some new parts in brass, such as the sets of air intakes behind and below the doors, and the surrounds of the door windows.  New rear-window louvered slats, one of the most distinctive features of the Miura, were also made from plasti-card.

The 'bodybuck' has been cast in resin and painted in the same colour as the built model, with a light varnish.  The only photo of a Lamborghini 'bodybuck' that I found showed that they were painted in the colour of the car's bodywork.

The rest of the photos show the individual, finished models, prior to the addition of the last decals and the fixing to a single base.  The final photo is of the finished display.

The finished display was exhibited at Retromobile 2020
