This model is of the Ferrari 126 CK and was based on a Merikits kit. It is the version from the 1981 USA West Grand Prix driven by Gilles Villeneuve. This was the first, official race of the season and was one of two F1 races to be staged in the USA that year. The circuit at Long Beach was a temporary street circuit just outside Los Angeles in California. Villeneuve failed to finish the race due to a broken driveshaft.
Although this model is based on a kit, it has been greatly modified with lots of new, fine detailing and scratch-built parts, particularly in brass. The first group of photos show, for example, various new parts of the bodywork in soldered brass. The second group of photos show the engine, which has been greatly modified. The last group of photos show the finished model, which was completed in April 2016.
The "work-in-progress" was on display at Retromobile 2016.
