Ferrari had put together this V6 Dino for John Surtees to race in the 1966 Tasman Championship, but due to injury, Surtees never took part. So the car became a back-up for the new 1966 F1 season in case the new Ferrari 312 V12 F1 cars were delayed or unsuitable. Which is why Lorenzo Bandini ended up driving it in the opening race of the 1966 season at Monaco. Whilst Surtees qualified the new 312 V12 on the front row, the decision was made to put Bandini in the 246 V6 as it was better suited to the street conditions of Monaco. The decision proved correct, as Surtees abandoned on lap 13, leaving Bandini to come home second behind Jackie Stewart in his BRM.

This model was based on a Tameo Kit, although to make this version I had to make a number of modifications. The engine for example was completely scratch-built and I have also added various hand-made parts such as a new rear boot cover in resin and new exhausts in brass.

I have added a greater number of hand-made parts than with the previous models. I soldered brass tubes to make the following parts: the lower rear suspension arms as well as the 4 lateral suspension arms (which were made using the same system of conical tips, bearings and nuts that are found on the real car); the support for the radiator; the supports for the rear shock absorbers; and the supports for the exhausts. I also added individual rivets to the bodywork, and various fuel lines and cables such as the spark plug wires to the engine. Finally, I hand-painted the white-metals parts such as the exhausts, fuel tanks, engine parts etc. using printers ink mixed with artist oil paints to create a “used” effect.

The model was completed in February 2015 and was a commission for a customer. It was presented at Retromobile 2015.
