One-off, 1:43-Scale, Super-detailed, Opening, Hand-built Model of the Ferrari 750 Monza, Carrera Panamericana 1954

This is a new, one-off model of the Ferrari 750 Monza from the 1954 Carrera Panamericana.  The car was owned and driven by Alfonso de Portago, but failed to finish due to oil pipe problems.

The base of the model is a white-metal kit of the Le Mans version of the 750 Monza by French kit manufacturer, Modelart111, which I have transformed into a fully-opening model of the Carrera Panamericana car.  So that the model could be fully-opening, and because the Panamericana car was significantly different from the Le Mans car, I've had to make various changes to the bodywork and had to add a variety scratch-built parts in brass to enable the model to be transformed into the Panamericana car.

One of the most important modifications was to the rear bodywork as the trunk was a different size and shape on the Le Mans car.  I cut away the body to open up the trunk, modified the shape of the opening using brass and made a new cover for the trunk in brass.  I also opened up the driver's door and made a new hinged, opening door in brass, as well as modifying the wheel arches.

I've also made some new scratch-built parts, including a new bonnet and a new tonneau cover, both with fully opened louvres, and a new, opening,  hinged petrol cap.  The interior of the two cars was different, so that has been completely modified, in particular the dashboard, which I have made from scratch in brass with new instruments.  The seats have been painted using artist oils.

I also modified the engine as it needed a different cylinder head, and I also added various parts to the engine in brass, as can be seen in the photos.

The model is presented on a plexi-glass base (with plexi-glass cover), with an LP Creation name plate in brass.

The model was finished in late 2022 and it was on display at Retromobile 2023.
