Two 1:43-Scale, Super-detailed, Hand-built Models of the Cadillac Spider 'Le Monstre', Le Mans 1950

This is a new two-model display of the Cadillac Spider a.k.a. 'Le Monstre' from Le Mans 1950.  One of the more unusual-looking Le Mans cars, it was entered privately by the American, Briggs Cunningham, and driven by him and his co-driver, Phil Walters. The car finished 11th overall.

As with the two-model display of the Ferrari 206 S Spyder, one model is a scratch-built chassis model, and the other is a built-model.  The idea behind this two-model display is to give the opportunity to view the uninterrupted lines and shape of the car, whilst at the same time viewing the chassis and internal workings of the car.

The built-model is based on a Provence Moulage kit of 'Le Monstre'.  The original kit has a number of changes and new parts in brass, such as the new air intakes for the engine and the brakes.

As for the chassic model, the chassis frame, cockpit and roll-bar have been scratch-built from soldered brass wire and sheet.  The Provence kit has been used to cast the resin parts (front, rear and wheels), and the seats and parts of the interior have been scratch-built using plasticard.

The rest of the photos show the finished display, which was available to view at Retromobile 2020
