One-off, 1:43-Scale, Super-detailed, Fully-opening, Hand-built Model of the Alfa Romeo P3, Winner of the 1935 German Grand Prix

This version of the P3 is the winner of the 1935 German Grand Prix driven by the Italian legend, Tazio Nuvolari. In a thrilling race with driving conditions made very difficult by wet weather, Nuvolari stormed over the finishing line in front of a crowd of an estimated 300,000 Germans, including many high-ranking Nazi officials, who were expecting an easy German victory. Their expectations were understandable as there were no less than seven German drivers competing in the more powerful German ’Silver Arrows’ of Mercedes and Auto Union. But Nuvolari showed his superior skills by coming back from behind and took the lead on the final lap to claim victory by more than 2 minutes ahead of 2nd-placed Hans Stuck in an Auto Union.

Unlike some of my other recent models, the prototype has not been based on a kit, but has been completely scratch-built my me using plasticard, resin and brass.

The various parts of the prototype were used to cast the body and other parts of the model, and to make the specially-commissioned photo-etched parts.

The model was finished in December 2016 and was on show during Retromobile 2017.

This work-in-progress was on display at Retromobile 2016 and at The London Classic Car Show 2016 in February 2016.
